Three days in Kalkan: the sea, old streets and nearby escapes

An unhurried introduction to Kalkan. Give one day to the town, another to Patara and a third to the water or the hills.

A Kalkan holiday needs room for breakfast at your villa, an afternoon by the pool and a walk that lasts longer than expected. Think of these three days as suggestions to rearrange, rather than a timetable to complete. Choose a few things you will enjoy and leave space between them.

Day one: get to know the town

Keep arrival day simple. Settle into your villa, pick up anything you need and head towards the old town as the afternoon cools. A stroll around the harbour, a turn into the smaller streets and a table that catches your eye make a good first introduction.

Consider the return journey as well as the walk down. A short distance on a map may include a steep climb back to your villa. If you are travelling with a pushchair or someone with limited mobility, discuss access from your particular address before making walking your everyday plan.

Choose dinner around the group, too. A quieter table or space for the children may matter more than the view. Our Kalkan dining guide suggests ways to match the restaurant to the evening you want.

Day two: leave time for Patara

Patara can mean an ancient city, a beach or sand dunes; it need not mean all three in a hurry. GoTürkiye’s Patara routes introduce these different stops. Pick two at most if you also want a leisurely lunch and an easy return.

If history is the main attraction, save a cooler part of the day for the ruins. If you would rather slow down, plan a break around Gelemiş and a shorter visit to an open, permitted part of the dunes. Check access and closing times before fitting a sunset into your plans. Our Patara sunset guide explains what to consider.

Bring water, a hat and shoes suitable for walking. What feels comfortable on the beach may be less comfortable on an uneven path or in deep sand. Allow time to get back to your transport without rushing.

Day three: water or village roads?

For a full day on the water, explore our Kekova boat trips. Our boats operate in Kekova, so do not plan the morning as though they leave from Kalkan harbour. We will confirm the meeting point and discuss the journey with you.

Prefer to stay on land? An İslamlar and Bezirgân day out offers a different rhythm: a short village stroll, a long lunch and time back at the villa. Avoid adding a boat trip, two villages and a beach to the same day simply because they all sound appealing.

Make the plan fit your group

With young children, one main outing each day may be enough. In a group of friends, let a pool afternoon be an equally good choice for anyone who wants it. If you will not be driving, arrange your return journey before setting off, especially for an evening outing.

Switch the days if the weather or sea conditions change. You do not need to see the whole coast in one visit. A favourite street, a table you want to return to and a day spent on the water are plenty to take home.
